I have built a smaller loudspeaker as a future prototype.
The woofer is facing the ground, coupling the bass output to the floor - giving a +6dB boost to the lower bass, as well as passively rolling off a lot of mid/treble. The high pass level of the bass is defined by the base height, thus the feet are easily adjustable.
The speaker on the top is a 2.4 litre sealed (infinite baffle) cabinet holding a Jordan JXR6 HD full range driver with a F3 rolloff at 117Hz. The bass cabinet is a 5.4 litre has an F3 rolloff of around 40Hz, but with the floor coupling seems to get down to low 30s in room..........not bad at all! The bass driver is also kinda unique, from Tangband, a 6.5" driver with 13mm excursion and a fundemental resonance of 38Hz,

I made a very quick first order crossover for the midrange driver which attenuates the driver by about 2.5dB, so it matches the lower effciency bass driver, and starts rolling off the driver at about 185Hz. This is still too low as the Jordan is bottoming out on louder passages (indeed I have killed the driver - I can hear the voice coil rubbing), so I will increase the crossover point to around 220Hz and raise the base of the cabinet to match....
More to come.
